Component Engineer Radiation Hardened Electronics

Client

is seeking an individual to serve as a Subject Matter Expert resource for high-reliability and radiation hardened electronics for space and other high-reliability military systems applications. The ideal candidate will possess: A working knowledge of common EEE (electrical, electronic, electromechanical) part failure modes; An understanding of operating environments affecting electronic systems including radiation effects in space radiation environments; Familiarity with microcircuit and semiconductor technologies including bonding, mounting, packaging and interposer. Specific duties include:

  • Review the selection, assembly and test of EEE parts to ensure selected parts are reliable, effective and suitable
  • Understand and apply "Physics of Failure" analyses for EEE part commodities
  • Evaluate radiation effects from single event upsets and total ionizing dose
  • Evaluate and inspect design and manufacturing processes for electronic circuits, components, integrated systems and hardware installations, to ensure conformance
  • Apply radiation hardening technologies to improve reliability of space flight systems
  • Formulate, evaluate, and apply component failure mechanisms and physics of failure to verify electrical/electronic components conformance to established criteria
  • Independently identify failures, research screening and qualification test plans, and recommend potential technical solutions
  • Support Failure Review Boards to ensure failure analyses account for defects
  • Conduct Parts Materials and Processes Control Boards to mitigate risks of submitted Non-Standard Parts Requests (NSPARS) and Non-Standard Materials Requests (NSMARS) to ensure the guidelines of the MDA (Missile Defense Agency) Parts Materials and Processes Mission Assurance Plan (PMAP) are enforced
  • Travel to support various review activities an estimated 5%

Required Qualifications:

  • Master or Bachelor of Science degree in a relevant field such as electrical engineering
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in radiation hardened hardware development, production, test, and evaluation

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to quickly connect in-person and in writing, and to actively listen and perceive the needs, values and opinions of others
  • Demonstrated leadership accomplishments both professionally and personally
