Electrical Engineer
Contract Multiple Openings, 3+ years, 40 hours weekly

Clearance:
Willing to review qualified candidates who can obtain an interim. Active clearance is HIGHLY preferred.

Work from home:
On site work is anticipated to be 80%. Final schedule TBD by hiring manager.

Description:
Designs, develops, and tests electrical devices and equipment, including communications systems, power generators, motors and navigation systems, and electrical systems for automobiles and aircraft. Oversees the manufacturing of these devices, systems, and equipment. Designs new ways to use electrical power to develop or improve products. Performs detailed calculations to develop manufacturing, construction, and installation standards and specifications. Directs manufacturing, installing, and testing of electrical equipment to ensure that products meet specifications and codes. Investigates complaints from customers or the public, evaluate problems, and recommend solutions. Works with project managers on production efforts to ensure that projects are completed satisfactorily, on time, and within budget. Designs electronic components, software, products, or systems for commercial, industrial, medical, military, or scientific applications. Analyzes customer needs and determine electrical system requirements, capacity, and cost to develop a system plan. Develops maintenance and testing procedures for electronic components and equipment. Evaluates systems and recommend design modifications or equipment repair. Inspects electronic equipment, instruments, and systems to make sure they meet safety standards and applicable regulations. Plans and develops applications and modifications for electronic properties used in parts and systems to improve technical performance.

The Control and Autonomous Systems Engineering Group is focused on the synthesis of dynamic and complex control and autonomous systems, from concept to realization, for a wide variety of prototypes. Prototype applications span various mission areas, such as space control; air, missile and maritime defense; communication and tactical systems; homeland protection; and intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance systems. The group has expertise in dynamic stabilization and platform control; advanced autonomy; pointing, acquisition, and tracking; guidance; navigation and estimation; robotics; mapping; intra- and inter-system planning (e.g., swarming); demanding real-time embedded software and firmware control; image processing; machine learning; human-machine interaction; space-qualified electronics; and analog and power electronics. Applied research and development projects include space optical payloads, small satellites, airborne laser radars and imaging systems, and autonomous air, ground, and maritime systems. The Control and Autonomous Systems Engineering Group (76) is in need of an Engineer II for architecture of electrical power systems and reviewing designs for optimum design approach

Design, development, and technical support of programs utilizing experience in electronic systems hardware development, with emphasis on power control/conversion.
*Participate in defining, describing and implementing program deliverables/functionalities

Experience in each of the following areas is required:
*All aspects of implementing circuitry, including design and schematic entry using Mentor Graphics tools, board layout, parts selection, debugging, and documentation.
*Opto-electronic circuitry such as low-noise quadrant detector trans-impedance amplifiers and laser diode pulse power drive circuitry (30 W or greater)
*Power conversion and distribution technology for 28 VDC avionics for aerospace applications
*Piezoelectric actuator drive circuitry
*Familiarity with circuit simulation using a tool such as PSpice
*Micro controller programming

The candidate must have:
*Familiarity with all types of laboratory instrumentation, including oscilloscopes, function generators, meters, spectrum analyzers, and frequency counters.
*Familiarity with embedded systems development, including C and/or assembly language programming for hard real-time single-board computer applications
*The ability to work closely with a small group to define circuit requirements based on high-level systems requirements.
*Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
*The ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
