Electro - Optical Measurements Engineer
Contract 3 years, 40 hours weekly
US Citizen, prefer Secret Clearance

This position is 100% onsite due to the nature of the work being done.

Researches, designs, develops, and tests a variety of electro-optic equipment and systems, including advanced materials systems; photonic, fiber optic, and other communication systems; as well as control and measurement test systems for product and process applications.

The Advanced Lasercom Systems and Operations Group develops, builds, and operates prototype space and airborne lasercom terminals. The technology developed and the lessons learned from these activities are transferred to operational programs through participation in standard groups and through the operation of a gold-standard test infrastructure. Major efforts include demonstration of a low-cost, high performance, prototype airborne lasercom terminals, designed for the lasercom interoperability standards, development of a test capability to validate inoperability among various contractor-produced terminals, and investigation into techniques to enable multiple simultaneous lasercom links through a single aperture.

Required Skills:
- Basic optical performance characterization of electro-optic components, including measurement of insertion loss, polarization, PER, power, and optical spectrum and frequency.
- Optical fiber splicing and recoating, including equipment set-up and maintenance, and proof-testing of fiber splices for both conventional and polarization maintaining fibers; development of splicing recipes for specialty fibers; documentation of splicing protocols and testing results
- Construction of breadboard level electro-optic assemblies with ability to coordinate with electrical and mechanical technicians.
- Ability to work as a member of a high performing team in support of a rapidly-paced, priority program
-The candidate must have a working understanding of basic optical characterization equipment.

Preferred Skills:
-Prior experience with optical fiber splicing, re-coating and proof testing and a familiarity with supporting technologies are desired.
-The candidate should have experience building and testing fiber optic assemblies for an aerospace or flight environment.

The candidate must be well organized, detail oriented, exhibit good manual dexterity and be able to work on more than one task simultaneously.
