he Advanced Satcom Systems and Operations Group is involved in a synergistic combination of research, proof-of-concept test beds, and system engineering/application efforts focused on the goals of enhancing the capacity, the robustness to interference, and the flexibility of future generations of communications satellites, as well as beyond line-of-sight radio communications systems. Current research is concentrating on the design and performance of advanced waveforms, machine learning applied to communications, signal geolocation, Alt-PNT, non-linear operation in saturation, beamforming for novel array types, robust acquisition and tracking techniques, dynamic resource-allocation protocols, and advanced networking strategies.

The Advanced SATCOM Systems and Operation Group requires a hardware engineer to design and maintain satellite communications payload emulation systems used within the group and delivered to industry. The systems consist of embedded single board computers which control a variety of custom-built digital hardware boards and RF equipment. The engineer will be required to develop a system level understanding of the unit so that the operation of the underlying digital hardware implementations can be assessed. In many cases, issues with the existing hardware will occur which require troubleshooting and anomaly resolution. The hardware engineer will work in a hands-on lab environment to determine the root cause of the issue, suggest fixes, oversee the resolution process, and test/verify the solution. In some cases, the engineer will be required to generate schedule estimates and documentation of the issues and solutions.

he work associated with this position requires involved hand-on work on a laboratory requirement. The candidate should be familiar with digital hardware laboratory tools, equipment and procedures. Good communication skills are required since the engineer will be working closely with other engineers and technicians to accomplish the required tasking.
