Hardware Engineer
Contract 40 Hours weekly, M-F
US Citizen, Active Secret Clearance Required

Description:
Designs, develops, and tests computer hardware, including computer systems, circuit boards, computer chips, keyboards, routers, and printers. Supervises the manufacturing, production, and installation of the parts. Designs and oversees the production of computer hardware equipment. Tests and re-tests parts to ensure they work properly. Identifies and isolates defects. Designs and develops the software systems that control computers. Designs and tests circuits and other electronic components. Tests work and refine processes. Integrates components into the final design. Evaluates the effectiveness of the design and change if necessary. Generates specifications for parts. Controls the efficiency of processes. Builds, tests and modifies product prototypes. Analyzes information and recommend appropriate hardware to users. Designs support peripherals, including central processing units (CPUs), support logic, microprocessors, custom integrated circuits, and printers and disk drives. Specifies power supply requirements and configuration. Retrieves data for analysis of system capabilities. Experience with Hardware engineering software (Altium Designer, Orcad, Cadence Allegro) and Electronics tools (soldering irons, magnifiers)

Advanced Sensor Systems and Test Beds Group (Group 33) supports Department of Defense (DoD) designing and developing various testbed systems and components to assist data collection for ballistic missile defense tests. Major activities within the group include system concept development for RF and optical systems, modeling and simulation, signal processing algorithm design, RF and optical system design and development, experimental field-testing and data analysis and development of one-of-a-kind operational and experimental test assets. The group has expertise in adaptive sensor array processing for both radar and communications, advanced real-time software techniques, signal detection and estimation, communications, and systems analysis. An Engineer level II contract staff is needed to design and develop digital hardware and firmware controlling a number of RADAR systems developed by Client.

Skills: Required
1) 3 years or more of relevant design experience, hands-on radar systems design, system realization, and field testing of HF and microwave radar systems.
2) Strong knowledge of VHDL/Verilog, Vivado/ISE, ISIM, EDK, System Generator, 3rd Part IP, Developing VHDL/Verilog test benches for functional and timing simulation
3) Detailed PCB design and using Mentor Graphics and Altium
4) Usage of test equipment, RF signal generators, Oscilloscopes and Logic Analyzers
5) Working in Windows 7/10 and Linux environments, and TCL
6) Candidate should be familiar with digital receiver design, including direct detect (i.e. RF sampling) receiver architectures.
7) Proficiency with MATLAB
8) Candidates must have good organizational skills with the ability to complete assignments working independently and in a team environment

Skills: Preferred
1) Radar timing and basic signal processing.
2) RF converters
3) Xilinx FPGA development and test in an Embedded environment
4) PCB design, schematic capture, component selections and simulation using Altium/Mentor Graphics.
5) Evaluating design tradeoff against speed and resource utilization
6) Experience with various hardware interfaces and communication: PCIe, I2C, LVDS, Serial Data over Fiber Optics with Protocol knowledge
7) Software design and development in C/C++
8) System integration experiences: HW/SW integration in lab and at site and developing test procedures
9) Usage of source code revision control systems such as GIT
10) Strong knowledge and understanding of analog/digital components, ADC and DAC performances
11) Desire and ability to participate in field testing which may involve travel
12) Desire and ability to participate in field experiments and data collection efforts, which could involve travel

Education/Professional Certifications
MS plus 3 years minimum relevant experience, or BS plus 5 years minimum relevant experience
