Sr. Mech Engineer – Machine Design, Dynamics & Control, PTC Creo

Contract 3+ months (potential to extend)

M-F 40 hours 

NOTE:  U.S. Citizenship or Lawful Permanent Resident Status is required


Job purpose:

Candidate will participate in the mechanical designs of military and commercial robotic products. Projects will be on robotic systems ranging from 10 pounds to 50,000+ pounds. Candidate should be proficient using 3-D Solid Modeling software (PTC Creo preferred) and have an understanding of machine design and analysis, mechanism design, and electro mechanical systems. The candidate shall be “hands-on” with abilities support mechanical design and product issues related to various DoD pre-production and production programs. Looking for someone with strong mechanical / mechanism / electromechanical design / dynamics and control experience.


Key responsibilities and accountabilities:

  1. Electromechanical design, layout and modeling of electro-mechanical assemblies machinery and mechanisms.
  2. Perform basic structural and dynamic/stability analyses
  3. Perform basic tolerance/stack-up tolerance analysis
  4. Creation of detail designs and drawings for fabrication

Required knowledge:
Design -- Experience with Electro-mechanical system design with a concentrated focus in mechanisms and Machine Design and Analysis is required.
Clerical – Experience with a CAD PDM system a plus. Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records.


Required Skills:

Technical – Hands on experience assembling, testing and troubleshooting electromechanical systems in shop environment and field, strong CAD and detailing skills, development of design doc packages, experience in sourcing vendors of electromechanical components, and ability to create and complete test plans

Computer Aided Design – Must have experience with relevant CAD packages. PTC Creo and Windchill highly desired.

Drafting – Must have experience with creation of detailed drawing and geometric tolerance (ASME Y14.5).

Communication- Must demonstrate excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills with technical & proposal writing experience. Presentation skill and ability to lead customer interaction required. The ability to write product specifications & requirements is required.

Computer- Experience with MS Office suite


Desired Skills:

Experience with vehicles such as: automotive, earthmoving equipment, or other heavy vehicles is desirable.

Experience w/ dynamics and controls and stability analysis of wheeled/tracked vehicles



  1. 5-10 years experience in mechanical design (3-7 yrs with MSME)
  2. Hands-on experience in shop/lab environment and field support roles
  3. Mechanical Engineering BS or equivalent, MS preferred
