Mechanical Engineer
Contract 6+ months
Mon-Fri 40 hours/week
Birmingham, AL

General Summary

The Senior Mechanical Engineer is an experienced and innovative Mechanical Engineer with direct experience in the aerospace industry and involved in new product design and development from concept to first article production of advanced mechanical systems. This position will assist in proposal development and must be adept in all phases of machine design.  The position requires an excellent verbal and written communication skillset.

  • Applies engineering concepts, theories, and practices in creative and innovative ways.
  • Conducts research projects of moderate size.
  • Will mentor engineers with less job-related experience.
Position Specific
  • Interface with the electrical and software engineering teams and designers.
  • Participation in project planning and project development schedules, and brainstorming sessions.
  • Clarify and/or define product/system requirements and translate into mechanical design requirements.
  • Assist identification and qualifying of suppliers.
  • Component selection for stabilized motion-controlled systems.
  • Participation in assembly and acceptance testing of prototype designs.
  • Prepare and present reports to clients and peers.
  • Meet project goals within time and cost constraints.
  • Participation in proposal development.
  • Perform other duties as required by supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications
  • U.S. Citizen with ability to obtain/maintain Top Secret Security Clearance
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with 7+ years of relevant experience or Master’s in Mechanical Engineering with 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Zemax or other ray tracing code.
  • Design for manufacturability experience.
