Senior Optical Metrology Engineer
Contract 6-12 months (potential extension)
M-F 40 hours/wk
Cambridge, MA

Must be a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident.

We are currently seeking a Senior Optical Metrology Engineer. The development of active mirrors for X-ray imaging involves fabricating thin-shell glass mirrors that have active elements lithographically printed on the back of the mirror. By applying a voltage to the mirror’s actuators, we change the optical figure of the mirror, thus allowing optical correction in real time. In support of this research and development, we need an optical metrology engineer to measure the mirrors throughout the fabrication and mounting process. Other tasks include operating mirror control electronics, as well as measuring the actuator’s influence functions and using that information to model (and optimize) the mirror’s performance.

*  Minimum MS in Optical Engineering, or Physics with an emphasis on Optical metrology (candidates with BS in optical engineering or optical physics with at least 5 years’ experience in optical metrology will be considered)
*  Experience with diverse optical metrology setups: Interferometers, Shack - Hartmann sensor, and optical alignment.
*  Experience in optical design/analysis software like: CodeV and/or Zemax, MATLAB, Python
*  Competency in optical design theory, lasers, polarization, detectors, electro-optical devices and opto-mechanical constructions.

*  Working independently, develop and operate optical test equipment and test stations involving interferometers, Shack-Hartmann based wavefront sensors, and associated positioning apparatus.
*  Understand and operate the control electronics that drive our mirrors.
*  Develop and improve the modeling algorithm we use to optimize the mirror based on empirically derived actuator influence functions.
*  Develop alignment methods for complex optical sensors and systems. Develop tooling and test equipment to support optical sensor alignment methods;
*  Prepare leading system engineer documentation (Element Performance Specifications, Element Design Specifications, Test Performance Specification; Test Analysis Reports) through review, release and change control;
