Signal and Image Processing Engineer

Contract Assignment, 3 Years 40 hours weekly

Active Secret Clearance, US Citizen

Researches, designs, develops and verifies signal and image collection systems, and defines and develops processing and dissemination computer algorithms. Develops requirements analysis, system architecture, and integrates new signal and image capture and processing technology systems. Designs, develops and analyzes systems for the extraction of information from sensors. Systems utilization includes implementation of signal and image processing with advanced computer architectures.

The Laser Technology and Applications Group (82) develops and applies laser systems and optics in solutions of defense and other U. S. Government needs. Group 82 is in need of a Signal Processing & Control Systems Engineer to provide ongoing engineering support to develop novel beam control systems for applications ranging from laser communication, sensing and directed energy.

The job functions for the, Signal Processing & Control Systems Engineer will include:
1) Working with a multi-disciplinary team to define top-level system requirements.
2) Design and analysis of various control system concepts and architectures; present and defend concepts to team members.
3) Prototype and test solutions on hardware and hardware-in-the-loop test platforms.
4) Assist in the specification and procurement of components designed for the control systems.

An M. S. in electrical or computer engineering with course work and experience in control systems and signal processing is required. Relevant work includes estimation and feedback control algorithms (PID controllers), optical tracking, inertial stabilization, embedded servo control systems, guidance, navigation, mechanism and actuator control.

The candidate must be familiar with design, implementation and evaluation of classical and modern control approaches, both linear and non-linear for single-input single-output (SISO) and multi-input multi-output (MIMO) dynamic systems.

Necessary skills include a proficiency in Linux operating system and real-timer kernels; Control system modeling and design in multiple software suites, such as Matlab Simulink; Control software design and development in multiple languages (C/C++, Python, etc); Image and signal processing knowledge (analog and DSP);

Excellent written and verbal communication skills and experience working with multidisciplinary teams is also required.

Preferred Skills:
Hands-on experience with optics, video and image acquisition systems, image processing algorithms, digital and analog signal processing and conditioning/acquisition hardware is desirable. Solid understanding of computer architecture and the PCIe interface is also highly desired. Experience implementing parallel processes using graphical processing units (GPUs) is also a plus.
