Software Developer

Contract 3+ years 40 hourly

Work location: Hybrid - Individual works from home or off-site for a portion of their schedule and within a routinely commutable distance from a Laboratory facility. Job will require onsite work, but can be virtual when not required onsite.

Clearance: Candidate can start with interim secret clearance.

Interview Process: Initial zoom pre-screen with hiring manager. If candidate advances to next round, additional interviews with technical team.


Develops application software. Writing and implementing efficient code. Researches, designs, develops and implements software applications and systems. Involved in planning of system and development deployment as well as responsible for meeting software compliance standards. Evaluates, designs and implements interface between hardware and software, operational requirements, cloud offering, system architecture, security and characteristics of overall system. Researching, designing, implementing and managing software programs. Identifying areas for modification in existing programs and subsequently developing these modifications. Determining operational practicality. Documents testing, client experience and maintenance of system corrections. May partner and collaborate with cyber security teams to ensure compliance with security standards. May develop and conduct unit tests.

Group 51, Cyber Physical Systems, performs research and development across many programs for the DoD and government agencies. Group 51 is looking for a full-time software developer to join the team who is experienced in agile software development.

The Software Developer must have the following experience:

5+ years with Python, experience with Python unit testing with pytest, and unittest, debuggers, Docker, Linux, and git.
Programs heavily utilizes Docker containers so candidates must have 5+ years of experience creating docker containers, using docker containers for development and testing and deploying containers using docker-compose.
Candidates must have experience with IDEs such as PyCharm and VSCode.
Programs also frequency utilize databases so a candidate must have experience with databases with a preference toward experience with Postgres.

Additional skills of interest may include: MQ, machine learning, ORM development and database administration
A strong candidate will have experience with the following Python libraries: Numpy, Hypothesis, Poetry, Pyenv, Tox, Sphinx, setuptools, pip, pytest, unittest.
A strong candidate would also have experience with: Javascript, RF, software defined radios, signal processing, Matlab or Jupyter, Nexus, and experience with continuous integration.
