Software Developer

Contract 40 hours weekly 3+ years
Active Secret, Clearance: Will only review candidates with an active Secret


Develops application software. Writing and implementing efficient code. Researches, designs, develops and implements software applications and systems. Involved in planning of system and development deployment as well as responsible for meeting software compliance standards. Evaluates, designs and implements interface between hardware and software, operational requirements, cloud offering, system architecture, security and characteristics of overall system. Researching, designing, implementing and managing software programs. Identifying areas for modification in existing programs and subsequently developing these modifications. Determining operational practicality. Documents testing, client experience and maintenance of system corrections. May partner and collaborate with cyber security teams to ensure compliance with security standards. May develop and conduct unit tests.

There are currently more than 20,000 objects in Earth's orbit. Some of these objects are operational satellites performing critical civil, scientific, and military missions. Tracking, monitoring, controlling and defending these satellites is of key national interest. The Information Integration and Decision Support Group develops the mission critical decision support tools needed to perform key functions such as rapid event detection and dynamic scheduling of assets in order to develop courses of action for the Space Warfighter. The decision support tools are driven by integrating information from various sensors, sources, and systems.

The focal point of the group’s activities resides in its data fusion and command and control software. It provides a real-time framework environment to ensure interoperability of several service-oriented-architecture (SOA) systems, to evaluate and operationalize the contributions of new sensors and sources, and to develop and assess the performance of new decision support algorithms using live data. In addition, it provides a simulation capability for Red/Blue exercises and event planning, operations, and training. The group seeks researchers from the physical sciences, including physics and mathematics, as well as from a wide range of applied disciplines (including electrical, computer, software, aeronautical, and astronautical engineering).

Responsibilities include:
•Participate in design and development efforts of web enabled services
•Develop and integrate new processing applications

•BS with 5 years of relevant experience or MS with 3 years of relevant experience
Degrees to include: Computer Science, electrical engineering, or related disciplines
•Software design and development experience
•Must be team oriented, and must be able to work independently and with team members
•Must have good communication and problem solving skills.
•Expertise with XML, RESTful Web Services
•Solid background in Object Oriented programming methodologies
•Expertise in full-lifecycle Java application development
•Experience with messaging systems
•Experience with application servers
•Familiarity with distributed system architectures and concurrent programming techniques
•Experience with common developer tools
•Strong Linux, Shell Programming and Perl experience
•Programming language experience: Java, C/C++

Nice to have:
•Familiarity with relational database and SQL skills
•Understanding of relational data design and modeling concepts
•GUI experience
