Description:
Full lifecycle application development. Designing, coding and debugging applications in various software languages. Software analysis, code analysis, requirements analysis, software review, identification of code metrics, system risk analysis, software reliability analysis. Object-oriented Design and Analysis (OOA and OOD). Software modeling and simulation. Front end graphical user interface design. Software testing and quality assurance. Performance tuning, improvement, balancing, usability, automation. Supports, maintains and documents software functionality. Integrates software with existing systems. Evaluates and identifies new technologies for implementation. Maintains standards compliance. Implements localization or globalization of software

The Space Systems Analysis & Test Group (95) identifies and evaluates threats to U.S. use of space for military, intelligence, civil, and commercial purposes. In addition, the Group investigates and develops techniques to specify and mitigate space environment effects on command, control, communication and intelligence systems.

Group 95 is working to develop an advanced optical space surveillance network to support critical national needs, and is in need of a system development software engineer to lead the development of a distributed space surveillance telescope network. Work will involve participating in the design, planning, development, implementation, and testing of real-time and near-real-time system software that support national-level data collection campaigns for the Department of Defense. In addition, the candidate will support the maintenance and enhancement of the Firepond Optical Facility legacy software for running the Telescope mount, cameras and other peripherals.

Required Skills:
- Experience developing with real-time systems (like RTP) and building interfaces to hardware equipment in C/C++.
- Experience in developing REST web services in Python and/or C++.
- Experience with programming user applications on Linux and Windows.
- The candidate should be familiar with simple image processing techniques.
- The candidate must be motivated and capable of working with little management direction.
- The candidate must possess strong communications skills and be able to report results effectively.

Preferred Skills:
- Experience leading clean-sheet architecture and development of complex systems software from high-level requirements.
- Familiarity with control theory, astrodynamics, image processing and/or detection theory are desired but not required.
- Experience with agile software engineering methodology, such as scrum.
- Knowledge of MATLAB would be helpful.
- Experience with containerization technology, such as docker would be highly beneficial.
- Experience with integrating and/or building camera interfaces (with SDK or API) to new or existing software would be beneficial.
Education/Professional Certifications
MSc in Computer Science or EE or equivalent technical field plus five (5) years minimum relevant experience, or BSc in Computer Science or EE or equivalent technical field plus eight (10) years minimum relevant experience.
