Software Engineer
Contract 3 years 40 hours weekly

Top Secret Clearance, requested. The ability to obtain and maintain a government (DoD) security clearance is required.

Description:
Full lifecycle application development. Designing, coding and debugging applications in various software languages. Software analysis, code analysis, requirements analysis, software review, identification of code metrics, system risk analysis, software reliability analysis. Object-oriented Design and Analysis (OOA and OOD). Software modeling and simulation. Front end graphical user interface design. Software testing and quality assurance. Performance tuning, improvement, balancing, usability, automation. Supports, maintains and documents software functionality. Integrates software with existing systems. Evaluates and identifies new technologies for implementation. Maintains standards compliance. Implements localization or globalization of software

The Space Situational Awareness groups research and development efforts focus on problems such as tracking and identification of newly launched satellites, tracking and discrimination of satellites in geosynchronous clusters, automated radar image exploitation, close approach monitoring and collision warning, applications of multi-sensor data fusion, and decision support. The group supports the continuous development and operation of government Space Situational Awareness (SSA) sensors in space from Client's Colorado Field Site (CFS) and Schriever AFB, CO. Client is seeking an engineer to provide front-end algorithm design and development on a large software project that exploits data from Space-based and Ground-based Space Surveillance Systems. The engineer will also provide direct, daily support and troubleshooting to operational AFSPC sensors at Schriever AFB.
Tasks include the development, modification and analysis of advanced algorithms for processing radar and optical remote sensing data as well as providing oversight for algorithm integration into the information system. Types of algorithms may include but not limited to image processing, target detection and tracking, calibration and orbital dynamics. Type of work will also include GUIs, web services, databases, cluster computing and other infrastructure pieces.

Candidate should be familiar with complex orbital mechanics and/or signal and image processing techniques as applied to target detection, tracking, and classification algorithms. Candidates with large scale software experience in a Linux environment will be given special consideration. Software will be constructed primarily in Java running in an Linux environment. This position over time will enable candidates with strong experience in either image processing or orbital mechanics, but not both, to learn what is needed to succeed at the job. Candidates must have the ability to self-study, complete assignments independently and in a team environment, and effectively present results. Candidates should be comfortable interfacing with sponsors, contractor partners, and vendors that have overlapping responsibilities but varied degrees of familiarity with orbital dynamics and advanced data processing techniques.

Candidate must have:

Experience/education in Orbital Dynamics
Experience in JAVA based programming
Experience with MATLAB and web services
Experience in a Domain Specific Language using Object Oriented Programming techniques
Large scale software experience

Candidate desired skills:

Experience/education in Optical Focal Plane image processing

Maximum 25% of assignment may be performed remotely.
