Systems Administrator

Contract 3+ years 40 hours weekly

CompTIA Security+ certificate or other DoD 8570 compliant certificate is required. The group will consider candidates that do not have this certification but they must obtain this certificate within the first 6 months of employment at no additional cost to the Lab.

-Interim is sufficient to start; preference for someone with an active secret clearance

-This person will be required to work onsite at the Lab 1-2 days / week. The person may be remote the other days. Candidate should be local to Lexington for this position. Any non local candidates should be prepared to relocate prior to the start of the assignment.

Maintains operation of multi-user computer systems, including coordination of infrastructure and cloud responsibilities. Develops and designs core operating system builds. Responsible for coding, virtualization, and automation of systems. Sets up administrator and service accounts, maintains an active directory of users and system documentation, tunes system performance, installs system-wide software, and allocates mass storage space. Assesses and resolves user access problems related to security controls to minimize business impact and risk exposure. Identifies and evaluates vendor products and establishes vendor monitoring and tracking processes. Performs capacity planning and monitors/tunes systems. Recommends appropriate platforms for purchase, coordinates installation, and provides backup recovery. Serves as a point of escalation for major incidents that are unresolved at the helpdesk level. Develops and monitors policies and standards for allocation related to the use of computing resources. May draft general IT communications to end-users including notifications of outages/downtimes. May serve as the primary liaison for mergers, acquisitions, and divesture activities as it relates to user access, network, security, and support.

The Tactical Defense Systems Group supports the United States Air Force in many mission areas that include air vehicle survivability, vulnerability of USAF aircraft to weapons systems, electronic countermeasures and air surveillance for homeland defense. In support of these efforts, the group operates airborne and ground-based testbeds composed of state of the art instrumentation and sensors. Group 108 requires one (1) full time System Administrator to assist with the installation, maintenance, repair, upgrade of computer, data storage, and network infrastructure on these group testbeds.

Required skills:
-Strong Linux experience with RHEL and Mint. This Linux administrator should have enterprise level experience
-Solid understanding of Windows and network fundamentals
-Experience installing, configuring and managing network services such as DNS, DHCP, NIS, NFS, SSH, SAMBA, AD
-Experience with the majority of the following applications. Candidate should have some level of experience with all of them, but not necessarily equal levels of experience with them.
o Github Enterprise Administration
o Veeam backup
o VMware vSphere, vMotion, and vSAN
o Jforg Artifactory management
o Atlassian Confluence, JIRA, and Bamboo management
o Splunk
o McAfee ePO Server
-Strong understanding for DoD RMF and STIG process
-Experience installing and configuring routers and switches
-Must be team oriented, have strong communication skills and have the ability to work independently to develop novel IT solutions to enhance productivity and reliability of computing resources
-Excellent customer service skills, communication skills, comprehensive and troubleshooting skills are required.
